Spokane is a small metropolis located in eastern Washington that borders the Selkirk Mountains. The city is bisected by the Spokane River, which runs for 111 miles from eastern Washington into northern Idaho. The main performing arts venues in the city are the Knitting Factory, Bing Crosby Theater, and Fox Theater. Spokane is home to the Spokane Symphony Orchestra and the 70-piece Spokane Jazz Orchestra. Another of the city’s beloved cultural institutions is the Northwest Museum of Arts and Culture, which showcases the region’s cultural and natural heritage.
Spokane has many great parks that provide trails for all skill levels, ranging from casual strolls to arduous hikes. One popular option is Riverfront Park located in Downtown Spokane. This 100-acre park also offers a cable car with stunning views of Spokane Falls. Founded in 1903, the oldest park in the city is Manito Park and Botanical Gardens. The park features a 3-acre European garden, a Japanese Garden, and Rose Hill which has over 1,500 rose bushes in more than 150 varieties. Spokane is located near two state parks, as well – Riverside State Park and Mount Spokane State Park, both of which cover over 11,000 acres.

Public transportation in the area is provided by the Spokane Transit Authority (STA), which offers fixed bus routes, paratransit services, and vanpools. STA also provides mobility training to help seniors and persons with disabilities learn how to safely ride the bus.
